A Massachusetts Revolutionary War RV Vacation Itinerary

Sometimes, we need to dig deep into our country's history to remember just how amazing our heritage really is. If you, too, are fascinated by America's early history, sites commemorating the Revolutionary War are the perfect places to visit on your next RV vacation. Here are some things that you can do in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to explore the history of the American Revolution.

Minute Man National Historic Park
Located in Concord, Massachusetts, Minute Man National Historic Park hosts re-enactments, tours and a wonderfully informative visitor's center. Start your RV trip here and learn the story behind "The Shot Heard Round the World" and the first battle of the American Revolution.

Boston National Historic Park
Keep driving into Boston and find an almost overwhelming collection of Revolutionary War historic sites. Boston National Historic Park encompasses more than a dozen places you'll want to visit to learn more about America's early struggle for independence.

Walk along the famous Freedom Trail to find the Old North Church, the USS Constitution and the Bunker Hill Monument. Show your kids where Paul Revere lived and awesome Faneuil Hall, where bold patriots came to protest taxation and tyranny in the public marketplace. You can literally spend a week exploring the streets of historic Boston and not see everything there is to see related to Revolutionary War history!

By the way, if you'd like to stay overnight in the Boston area, the luxurious Normandy Farms Campground is located between Boston and Cape Cod in Foxboro and offers every possible RV camping amenity.

Fairs, Festivals and Foliage in Central Massachusetts

This was provided to us by the Central Massachusetts Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Fairs, festivals and foliage make the fall a wonderful time to visit Central Massachusetts. There are multiple celebrations and events almost every weekend, and beautiful rural driving routes along which to admire the changing seasons. There are so many compelling reasons to set up camp and stay for a while, but where?

As it turns out, campgrounds abound in Central Massachusetts, so there are plenty of sites from which to choose for extended stays in this beautiful region. Pine Acres, on beautiful Lake Dean in Oakham boasts resort amenities along with the charm of country solitude. And just down the road in Barre is Camp Coldbrook, which features a par three golf course, Olympic-size swimming pool and 22,000 acres of nature to explore.

In addition to great history, culture and shopping, The Blackstone Valley offers several sites, including: Indian Ranch, located on lovely Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg (or Webster Lake!) The loose translation is "you fish on your side; I'll fish on my side, and no one fishes in the middle." This campground features an entertainment venue – check the website for schedule. In addition, King's Campground in Manchaug, Lake Manchaug Camping in E. Douglas and The Old Holbrook Place in W. Sutton all feature waterfront views of Lake Manchaug. Sutton Falls Camping Area in W. Sutton offers quiet family camping on a private pond.

The Sturbridge Townships also offer campgrounds in abundance, along with many tourist attractions, like Old Sturbridge Village and fine dining at The Publick House, Sturbridge and Salem Cross Inn, W. Brookfield. Nearby are Highview Campground and The Old Sawmill Campground in W. Brookfield, which offer great family recreational activities. In the town of Sturbridge, Outdoor World provides daily planned activities, weekend entertainment, an indoor pool and 200 acres of beautiful pines. Also in Sturbridge, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park is open all year, offering great fun for the whole family, with Yogi, Cindy, Boo Boo and more!

And while you're here, be sure to enjoy some of the area's festivals and attractions. And take advantage of the season's offerings. For adventures in Apple Picking, Central Massachusetts has many great orchards and farms where you can "pick your own" with family and friends. Enjoy leaf peeping with a walk or bike ride on the Central Massachusetts Rail Trail; participate in one of 106 walks in The Last Green Valley throughout October for the 19th Annual Walktober, or visit North Quabbin Woods for a spectacular display of foliage and wildlife.

For optimum leaf peeping, Route 20 spans the entire state (East-West) of MA and offers scenic vistas and attractions, particularly in the Sturbridge area. And Route 31 North will take you from the CT border to breathtaking Wachusett Mountain, where you can ride the gondola (weather permitting) for a picturesque view of the foliage all the way to NH and Boston. In addition, Route 122 heading North from Worcester, is rife with photo opportunities along the roads in Paxton, Rutland, Oakham, New Braintree, Hardwick and throughout the Quabbin Reservoir region.

This is just a taste of what Central MA has to offer. For a complete listing of events and activities, please visit: www.centralmass.org.

And for RVing to any of these wonderful destinations, El Monte RV Rentals' Boston RV Rentals in Sutton, MA will be able to take care of all of your RV rental needs.

Northeast Fall Foliage RV Road Trip

Here's a secret we've learned from avid RV campers - some of the most beautiful fall foliage in America can be found along the country roads and highways of the Northeast states. Just thinking about all those photo ops makes me want to take a Northeast fall foliage RV road trip! What about you? If you're ready to roll, use these ideas to plan your trip.

The Pleasures of the Poconos! Any RV camper who's never visited the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania has missed a fantastic road trip. The Poconos are home to dozens of picturesque villages and scenic byways. The area west of Scranton, in particular, is a favorite destination for foliage viewing.

While you're in the Poconos, why not park your RV at Keen Lake RV Resort? The Keen Sisters run a beautiful RV campground on the shores of a ninety-acre lake. You won't want to go home!

New York's Fall Foliage Extravagance! Two scenic mountain ranges in New York have enough gorgeous fall foliage for a month-long RV camping trip. The Adirondacks in Upstate New York offer fantastic mountain lakes and hundreds of miles of autumn scenery. Check out Adirondack Adventure RV Resorts for two great RV campgrounds in the area.

In southern New York, the Catskills have their own distinct charm. Maple, oak and hickory leaves burst into brilliant color every year around quaint villages like Cooperstown and Utica. To make your RV camping vacation perfect, Blue Mountain RV Campground in Saugerties has full-service campsites nestled in the trees.

Don't Miss Massachusetts! What could be more picturesque than Boston in autumn? But don't miss the Berkshires! These mountains in western Massachusetts offer one foliage-filled mile after another. And don't leave the state without taking in the fall beauty of Cape Cod.

The Northeast United States is a region we hope all our RV camping friends get to visit. We can help you find the right RV rental for your Northeast Fall Foliage RV Road Trip at our El Monte RV Rentals Boston location, or our other locations: State College RV Rentals, Kingston PA RV Rentals, or Linden, NJ RV Rentals. New England Fall Foliage RV Road Trip!

Fall FoliageEvery year at this time, I start hearing people say "I wish I could take one more road trip before winter!" I've found the perfect trip—a New England RV journey to see the gorgeous autumn colors!

Throughout the New England states, the trees are starting to turn and glorious color is around every curve in the road. Isn't it time to pack the RV and experience autumn in New England for yourself?

Here's my quick list of areas famous for foliage to help you plan your New England RV road trip:
  • Vermont's Champlain Valley: Some of New England's most fabulous fall scenery can be found around Lake Champlain on the New York/Vermont border. Whether your RV's rolling through Burlington, Shelburne or East Middlebury, the fall foliage won't disappoint. Need a place to stop for the night? Ten Acres Campground offers lakeside RV campsites through mid-October.
  • Kancamagus Scenic Byway – New Hampshire: In New Hampshire's White Mountain National Forest, the "Kanc" winds its way through spectacular hardwood forests, along the Lost River and through valleys filled with historical sites. Broken Branch KOA in Woodstock, NH is open through October and a stone's throw away from White Mountain.
  • Acadia National Park – Maine: The granite outcroppings and splendid fall colors in the forests of Acadia National Park will have you pulling off the road for photo after photo. Leaf peeping in early October is a very popular pastime at the park, so be sure to make your RV campground reservations early. Try Hadley's Point Campground in nearby Bar Harbor for full-service campsites.
  • Litchfield Hills – Connecticut: The photo opportunities are also endless along the highways and byways of Connecticut's Berkshire foothills. Mohawk State Forest near Goshen, Lake Waramaug State Park near Kent and dozens of quaint Connecticut villages fill the Litchfield Hills with plenty of sightseeing possibilities. Valley in the Pines Campground in Goshen is a great home base for your Connecticut Fall Foliage RV Tour.
  • Merrimack Valley – Massachusetts: Lexington, Concord, Waltham and Boston…historic towns surrounded by explosions of fall color. Massachusetts' Merrimack Valley is home to seven sites managed by the State Parks Department, as well as rivers, streams and covered bridges. Why not park your RV at Minuteman Campground near Boston? It's perfectly located as a center of Merrimack Valley activities.
