Is RV Insurance Required?

Is RV Insurance Required?

So you’ve made the life changing decision to purchase a used motorhome, and you’ll be driving off into the sunset in no time, but first you want to make sure the finance and security side of things is all taken care of. Today El Monte RV, home of a huge inventory of high-performance used RV’s, is offering advice about RV insurance, whether you need it, and how to get it.

What is RV Insurance

RV insurance covers you for liability and damage, in case of accidents, bodily injury, or property damage, and like automobile insurance it is required. Minimum liability coverage is required in every state, and many also require uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. Each state has a different minimum coverage limit, which is listed as 3 numbers. For example if you live in the state of California, the required minimum insurance is 15/30/5 which means that $15,000 per person, $30,000 per accident, and $5,000 per accident for property damage needs to be covered by insurance. This goes for all self-propelled vehicles, including motorhomes.

Insurance Coverages for RVs

  • Bodily Injury helps pay for any medical expenses or lost income resulting from injury in an accident.

  • Property Damage Liability pays for damage to another person’s property

  • Collision pays for damage to your RV in the event of a collision with another vehicle or object.

  • Comprehensive covers any loss or damage to your RV not caused by collision, such as damage caused by vandalism, animals, environment, fire, or weather.

  • Uninsured/Underinsured reimburses you for injury or damage that the other driver does not have the insurance to cover.

  • Roadside Assistance provides towing up to 100 miles, emergency services such as vehicle extraction, delivery of oil, water, or fuel, battery service, lock out assistance, and tire change.

  • Custom Equipment insurance covers your aftermarket parts and equipment not originally included with your vehicle.

  • Full Timer’s Package protects those who use their motorhome as a permanent residence.

For peace of mind on the open road, insure your property, save yourself from greater costs, and get the assistance you need when you need it.
