New National Park Service App: Why You Need This!

The National Park Service has come out with a new app that is a real godsend for campers and fans of our national parks!

You can download it for Apple or Android devices by going to the Apple Store or Play Store. The title of this app is simply “National Park Service,” and it is free to download.

So why do you need this app?

First, it lists all the national parks and includes beautiful images of each park as well. And, it has everything you may need to know about each national park. This means maps, campgrounds, things to do in the park, hours, days and months of operation and much, much more.

The National Park Service mobile app (also find it at is now available for visitors to national parks across the country. Created by park rangers with visitors in mind, the NPS App gives the public up-to-date information about all 423 national parks in one easy-to-use app.

Yes, easy-to-use and free to download, the NPS app (which you can also use offline as long as you download content beforehand) offers interactive maps of each park, self-guided tours curated by park rangers, and news and current events, along with lists of amenities (such as food services, restrooms, and gift shops). You can get as involved with the app as you’d like, whether you want to keep detailed lists of the overlooks and points of interest you want to see or you just need to check the park hours and entry fees.

When it comes to making campground reservations, there is a seamless interface that takes you to, so no worries there either.

The NPS app gives real-time updates on conditions within the park—such as road closures, long entry lines, weather advisory warnings, and whether you need a reservation to enter—allowing you to find all the pertinent information you need to know before heading to or traveling throughout the park. Just be sure and use it and download what you will need for a certain park ahead of time in case you are out of cell service range.

Here's a review from a recent user:

“Since the passport app went away, this is a great alternative to keeping track of what parks you wish to visit, which you have been to, and spots to locate passport stamps. Another big plus is being able to download park data so you can access it offline or without data in some of the more remote areas. One of the features I really enjoy is the create a postcard where you can upload photos and get a little logo and park name over your images, the drawback to this (for me so far) has been the app doesn’t load your entire camera roll so you can’t access older photos. Hopefully the next update fixes this, but otherwise rejoice! An up-to-date app with all your park needs is here!”
