Planning A Romantic Weekend Getaway RV Adventure for Valentine’s Day

Romantic Weekend Getaway

Are you ready to go on a romantic RV camping trip and get away? Consider the possibility that it could be a perfect time for you and your loved one (or even the whole family) to get out on the road and enjoy something new. We have a few romantic destinations that could be just what you need to spruce up your Valentine’s Day.

How about these ten romantic destinations? See if one of these is close to you or where you’d like to spend a very special Valentine’s Day weekend.

1. Napa Valley, California

Napa Valley is home to some of the most famous and beautiful wineries in the U.S. For the perfect romantic getaway that’s convenient to all that Napa Valley has to offer, park your RV at the Canyon Creek Resort. This affordable resort will give you plenty of extra spending cash to set aside for wine tasting, winery tours, or a romantic meal. You can even create your own, unique private blend at the Fontanella Family Winery.  Another great romantic Napa Valley destination is Napa Valley Expo RV Park. Wine lovers will rejoice in the park located right in the heart of Napa wine country. This year-round, full-hookup campground is the perfect place to make your base as you explore the vineyards of Napa and Sonoma valleys. When you’ve had your fill of wine, historic downtown Napa is just a short walk from the campground.

2. Charleston, South Carolina

Historic Charleston is one of the most sought after destinations in the south for families, couples, and travelers of all kinds. The Oak Plantation Campground is just minutes away from all of Charleston’s best historic plantations, shopping, golf and beaches. The campground has over 200 campsites, with clean, modern facilities. While in Charleston, have a romantic picnic at Middleton Place along the Ashley River, or sail across the Charleston Harbor.

3. Hot Springs, Arkansas

Located just minutes from Hot Springs National Park, Hot Springs National Park KOA offers year-round full hookup RV sites. The campground also has an arcade room, billiards, hiking trails, a pet playground and laundry facilities. There’s no better way to enjoy a relaxing, romantic Valentine vacation than to rejuvenate in the hot thermal waters of Hot Springs National Park.

4. Lake Buena Vista, Florida

If you’ve been waiting to step foot inside the Magic Kingdom there’s no better time to go than the middle of winter. In fact, February is a perfect time to visit Florida. The weather is better, the crowds are smaller and lodging is affordable when you camp in your RV. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort has full hookup campsites and provides easy access to the theme park. As an added bonus, you can even see fireworks right from the campground. This is a great Valentine’s Day trip for you and the entire family.

5. St. Augustine, FL

Known as the “Nation’s Oldest City,” St. Augustine, Florida has more than four centuries of history that owes much to the Spanish and English, to Greeks and Native Americans as well as African Americans.

Visit Cordova Street for shopping, food, and the famous “love tree” which brings good luck to happy couples who kiss underneath it. Live music and good food are always in abundance, along with romantic tours through wineries, distilleries, or the Fort Matanzas National Monument.

St. Augustine became a vacation destination after several luxury resorts were built at the direction of Henry Flagler, a founder of Standard Oil, who wanted to create a new American Riviera. The city’s Historic District is steeped with Gilded Age romance featuring cobblestone streets, centuries-old Spanish-influenced buildings, hidden courtyards, ornate fountains, and grand monuments. Explore the grounds of Flagler College, a masterpiece of Spanish Renaissance architecture. You can even stop by for a couples’ picture in front of the fountain at the main entrance.

One exceptional place to park your RV here is at the beautiful Anastasia State Park. Walk along Anastasia Island and take a chilly dip in the Atlantic while you camp here and enjoy all the seabirds, as you walk along a 4 mile stretch of beautiful pristine white sand beach. Overall, this park has about 1600 unspoiled acres, a haven for visitors and wildlife alike. Abundant wading birds hunt for food along the Salt Run, including colorful roseate spoonbills. Osprey and eagles rule the skies, and painted buntings and warblers often flit about the hammock forests.

6. Amelia Island, FL

Just a 90-minute drive north of St. Augustine is laid-back Amelia Island with its 13 miles of rolling dunes and pristine seashore. Its picturesque beaches are a perfect backdrop for togetherness. Start the day with a sunrise horseback ride on the white sand beach that ribbons the Atlantic Ocean (assistance is provided to make the ride accessible to all ages). This is the only Florida State Park that allows horseback riding on its beach. Afterwards, walk arm-in-arm and discover seashell treasures like great heart cockles, sand dollars, and olives.

For couples’ pampering while you’re in the area, visit the Omni Amelia Island Resort. Book a wellness treatment like a Swedish massage or cleansing facial for a real treat. Make a reservation for a romantic dinner at Salt at The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island – the only five-diamond restaurant in Florida. Consider booking the Chef’s Table in the kitchen for a truly gastronomic experience.

7. St. Mary’s, Georgia

Nestled in the southern tip of Georgia’s colonial coast, Crooked River State Park is a great place to camp in the wintertime. Its mild temperatures and close location to the Intercoastal Waterway allow campers to stay outside and explore the water. The 500-acre park’s campground offers electric and water hookups to its 63 campsites, and coin laundry and hot showers. Cold weather doesn’t stop play at Crooked River State Park, a mossy, salt-sprayed slice of nature on the inter-coastal waterways that wiggle towards Georgia’s southern coast. Mainly because this area doesn’t really experience any – we’re talking jacket or light sweater weather rather than wool sweater weather. Here you will have access to nature trails weaving past live oaks and salt marshes to the beach.

8. Savannah, Georgia – Another historic gem in Georgia is the beloved city of Savannah. Take a romantic horse and carriage ride through the historic district’s traditional southern architecture, or check out a show at the Historic Savannah Theatre. Lulu’s Chocolate Bar can be a sweet ending to your romantic evening, on Valentine’s Day or any other date night. While in Savannah, stay at the closest RV Park to historic Savannah, the Red Gate Campground. This RV campground offers romantic horseback trail riding, beautiful fishing ponds, and plenty of southern charm.

9. Knoxville, Tennessee – Romance is always in the air in Knoxville, a historic town filled with festivals, theaters, gardens, and delicious food. Explore the historic Tennessee River on a riverboat or customize a food tour just for you and your sweetheart. Make sure your camping experience is convenient and relaxing, by staying at the wooded campground of Southlake RV Park.

10. Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Located about 45 minutes north of Gatlinburg, Anchor Down RV Resort opened just a few years ago and word spread quickly. Located on the shores of Douglas Lake, the campsites are becoming legendary. Many have large, custom stone fireplaces with stunning water and mountain views. Prepare a romantic meal right at your site and plan on an evening of quiet conversation as the sun melts into the water.  If you are looking to get wet, Anchor Down has all of the resort amenities you could want–including a pool and lake beach with swimming and watercraft rentals. Great Smoky Mountains National Park is also nearby for endless outdoor adventures.
