Anyone interested in fossils and the history of pioneers making their way west will want to visit the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, just an easy 69 miles from your campsite at Cutty's Hayden Creek RV Resort.   
 
The monument tells the history of flora and fauna from ancient North America and gives insight into what life may have been like 34 million years ago.  It also describes life in much more recent times, when determined settlers made their way to the area to take advantage of the Homesteader's Act of 1862, which when certain criteria was met, granted the settler 160 acres of land to call their own.
