One-Tank Trips
From our Dublin, CA location you can take off in several directions for a one-tank trip. Head west to Oakland to start out and go for a short tour of Oakland before crossing the Oakland Bridge to San Francisco. Then visit Golden Gate Park first for a picnic lunch before you cross the Golden Gate Bridge to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. If you love boats, stop in Sausalito at the Yacht Harbor. Go see the giant Redwoods in Muir Woods National Monument in Mill Valley. Take Hwy 101 north to San Rafael. If you want a beautiful coastal view, drive south along California’s famous Coastal Highway- Route 1 and visit Pacifica State Beach and Half Moon Bay. If you want more city, drive east on route 92 to Redwood City. If you prefer to stay coastal, proceed south on Hwy 1 to San Gregorio and Santa Cruz. Carmel and Monterey are about five hours south of the Bay. There is so much to see you may want to stop and visit at several places along the way. This is truly California’s Pacific coast at its finest! If you get tired and want to park and overnight, RV campgrounds abound in California, both private and public.
National Parks / National Historic Sites near San Francisco
One of California’s favorite national monuments is Devils Postpile, a geological formation you won’t want to miss. The formation is a rare sight in the geologic world and ranks as one of the world's finest examples of columnar basalt. Its' columns tower up to 60 feet and display a striking symmetry.
The old-growth redwood forest at Muir Woods National Monument should definitely be on the top of your list as one of the best places to visit. Be sure to watch the gray whale migration at Klamath River Overlook in Redwood National Park.
If waterfalls excite you, then Yosemite National Park is where you need to be. If you love photography, capture the phenomenon at Horsetail Falls which is quite miraculous. Make your time easier by traveling in a motorhome rental from El Monte RV. The famous federal penitentiary of Alcatraz Island was also the first lighthouse and US Fort on the west coast and has such a historic story you will want to learn about it. Enjoy the island’s gardens and bird colonies while you are there.
National Forests near San Francisco

The Stanislaus National Forest, Los Padres National Forest and El Dorado National Forest are beautiful places to drive thru in your motorhome enjoying the scenery. Photographers love our national forests, especially Mendocino National Forest. Be sure not to miss Tahoe, Toiyabe, Sierra, and Plumas National Forests as well as Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada.
State Parks near San Francisco
You can enjoy Mother Nature with all the comforts of home available to you when you visit the numerous State Parks near San Francisco. Angel Island, San Bruno Mountain, Candlestick Point State Recreation Area, San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park and many more are available for you to camp in or visit while in the Bay area.
Looking for lakeside camping? A few of the lakes available for your enjoyment are Shasta, Trinity, San Antonio, Mammoth, Convict, Mono, June and Clear Lakes. Lake Tahoe isn’t very far away either.
Local Attractions / Amusement and Theme Parks
Take your family and explore the ocean life at either Monterey Bay Aquarium or the Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco.
Zoos are always a favorite spot for both children and adults. Traveling to either of these in your RV rental just makes it better. For animals and birds of Africa the Santa Rosa – Safari West Zoo is spectacular and the San Francisco Zoo is home to over 250 species of animals. How can you resist?
